Leadville Ski Joring was the birthplace of the modern-day skijoring competition.
Skijoring is a competition in which a horse and rider pull a skier at high speed through a course with gates, jumps, and rings. The skier is timed through the course, and penalties are assessed for missing gates or jumps, and for missing or dropping the baton or any of the rings. The competitors race for cash prizes and a coveted belt buckle & jacket.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST

THE CALCUTTA

Teams are auctioned off to the highest bidder. All are welcome!

OPEN DIVISON
HIGH NOON
The first horse takes to Harrison Ave. The open division is the largest jumps & fastest horses. Orange Course.
SPORT DIVISION
~1:30 pm
The largest competitor division, sport division allows competitors to leave their mark. Blue Course.
NOVICE DIVISION
~ 3:30 pm
For competitors just joining us, novice allows a more forgiving place to get into skijoring. Blue course.
KIDS EVENT (SAT)
~5:00 pm
Kids are pulled behind snowmobiles and learn skijoring from a young age. Learn more.
AWARDS CEREMONY
6:00 pm
Our awards ceremony takes place at the Elks Lodge. Awarding the fastest teams from each day & the weekend.
GETTING HERE & PARKING
Located less than 2 hours away from Denver, CO, Leadville is the Highest City in the United States (10,200 ft). Leadville Ski Joring is nestled in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Whether you are looking for a weekend getaway from Denver or visiting from elsewhere, Leadville is relatively easy to get to by car. Leadville does not have car-share services like Uber and has limited public transportation from Denver. To view more information, you can visit the Lake County site here.

There is no dedicated parking for LSJ, and we utilize surrounding streets. The map to the left shows about a 10-minute walk, denoted by the dotted circle. Please remember to respect driveways, rights-of-way, fire hydrants, etc. We recommend you arrive early for better parking. For ADA parking, please contact us.

BEFORE YOU GO:
1. Read & understand parking & general information.
2. Pack for the elements
At 10,200 ft above sea level, weather can be unpredictable. Bring different layers & dress appropriately for the high-altitude environment. Bring sunscreen, Water, Jackets, and Comfortable shoes.
3. Leave dogs & drones at home.
4. Enjoy & have fun!
Respect others and businesses, and follow instructions from all course representatives. Most of all, though, enjoy America's largest skijoring event!
NO Dogs & Drones Policies
For the safety of all competitors & spectators, dogs, including service animals, are prohibited from the event. This includes any areas where horses are present. You will be asked to remove dogs; we have zero tolerance for their presence. Please contact us if you need specific accommodations.
ADA Guidelines - "In most settings, the presence of a service animal will not result in a fundamental alteration. However, there are some exceptions ... service animals can be restricted from areas where the animals on display are the natural prey or natural predators of dogs, where the presence of a dog would be disruptive, causing the displayed animals to behave aggressively or become agitated."
