Leadville Ski Joring was the birthplace of the modern-day skijoring competition.
Skijoring is a competition in which a horse and rider pull a skier at high speed through a course with gates, jumps, and rings. The skier is timed through the course, and penalties are assessed for missing gates or jumps, and for missing or dropping the baton or any of the rings. The competitors race for cash prizes and a coveted belt buckle & jacket.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST

Join us for a pancake breakfast at the Elks Lodge (123 W 5th St) located in the basement. $10 cash
THE CALCUTTA
9:30 am
An auction stlye betting pool where fans & spectators can purchase teams before the event begins
NATIONAL ANTHEM
11:45 am
Join us in honoring the flag that makes all of this possible; sung by Carin Mari.
OPEN DIVISON
HIGH NOON
The first horse takes to Harrison Ave. The open division is the largest jumps & fastest horses. Orange Course.
SPORT DIVISION
~1:30 pm
The largest competitor division, sport division allows competitors to leave their mark. Blue Course.
NOVICE DIVISION
~ 3:30 pm
For competitors just joining us, novice allows a more forgiving place to get into skijoring. Blue course.
KIDS EVENT (SAT)
~5:00 pm
Kids are pulled behind snowmobiles and learn skijoring from a young age. Learn more.
AWARDS CEREMONY
6:00 pm
Our awards ceremony takes place at the Elks Lodge. Awarding the fastest teams from each day & the weekend.
GETTING HERE & PARKING
Located less than 2 hours away from Denver, CO, Leadville is the Highest City in the United States (10,200 ft). Leadville Ski Joring is nestled in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Whether you are looking for a weekend getaway from Denver or visiting from elsewhere, Leadville is relatively easy to get to by car. Leadville does not have car-share services like Uber and has limited public transportation from Denver. To view more information, you can visit the Lake County site here.

There is no dedicated parking for LSJ, and we utilize surrounding streets. We have done our best to outline parking on our parking map. Please remember to respect driveways, rights-of-way, fire hydrants, etc. We recommend you arrive early for better parking. For ADA parking, please contact us.

Ski Joring is a family friendly event for all ages and free for everyone
No Dogs
Leave your best friends at home. For safety, no dogs are permitted at the event.
Safety is important at 'The Grand Daddy of 'em All'. Remain safe and pay attention to all volunteers & event personnel.
